The Chhattisgarh government has sought Central assistance of Rs 94.22 crore for tribal development with special stress on educational infrastructure for combating Naxalites in the interior areas of the state. Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh submitted a memorandum to Union Tribal Affairs Minister Kantilal Bhuria when they met to discuss about the schemes going on in the state.
According to official sources, Singh said that the state needed 218 ashram schools and 248 tribal hostels in the Naxal-infested seven districts to effectively run the academic works in the affected pockets. The state government had earlier submitted a proposal seeking Rs 133 crore for ashram schools and Rs 109 crore for the hostels.
