The empowered group of ministers (EGoM) on telecom would meet tomorrow to discuss the lukewarm response to the recently concluded auction of 2G telecom spectrum. The EGoM, headed by Finance Minister P Chidambaram, is likely to discuss the revised reserve price of spectrum for the four circles of Delhi, Mumbai, Karnataka and Rajasthan that didn’t receive any bid in the auction of the 1,800-MHz band in the second week of November.

The group would also discuss fresh auctions for CDMA spectrum, which also failed to secure any bid. Tata Teleservices and Videocon, which had initially shown interest in the 800-MHz band, had withdrawn before the auction started.

It is likely the EGoM would consider reducing the CDMA licence term from 20 years to 10 years.
