The Punjab government today sanctioned Rs 6.49 crore for carrying out preventive flood protection works to tackle emergency situations at different critical points on embankments in flood-prone districts of Ropar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Sangrur, Kapurthala, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr and Barnala following the increased water level in various rivers and reservoirs due to heavy rainfall in the region.
