Himachal power board split put off till March 2009

The much awaited trifurcation of the loss making Himachal Pradesh Electricity Board(HPSEB) has been further postponed by the Centre for the next eight months.

The Union power ministry has given time to the state government to undertake the exercise on its own level by March 2009. A decision has been conveyed to the state government by Union power minister saying that the HPSEB will continue as a state transmission utility till next year.

The state has been seeking extensions from the Union power ministry since June 2005 when it decided to have three branches of the HPSEB.
