Immigration Voice, a US-based organisation working for protection of immigration issues, mainly related to the Indian-Americans, has applauded the leadership of President Barack Obama on the issue.
"Immigration Voice applauds President Obama's leadership on this critical issue that is very important to the continued economic progress and one that represents the best of American traditions," it said in a statement yesterday.
The reaction came a day after Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and the bipartisan Senate and House Leadership at a White House meeting gave a fresh start to reform the immigration system through a process of dialogue and action.
"With the meeting, the President started the effort for the much needed immigration reform by announcing a working group lead by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano," the statement said.
"While we as future Americans wait for the comprehensive immigration reform to reach our doorsteps, we are also heartened by President Obama's recognition of the need for improvement in the administrative procedures and the issue of backlogs," it said.
Observing that transparent and instantaneous electronic access to immigration records has been long sought by the immigrant community, it said: "Building a client friendly USCIS that provides e-mail and text updates will ease the wait of many years that has become common with employment based immigration."
The organisation said it will extend its full support for this process, with the hope that change is coming to the nation's immigration system to fix employment based green card backlogs.
