Jaac Polls On Party Lines -Basis

The elections to the Jharkhand Area Autonomous Council (JAAC) will be held on party- basis.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at an all-party meeting, chaired by Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi here yesterday. Devi said the state government would recommend to this effect to the state election commission.

The government would also recommend conducting of polls on any date between January 16 and January 21 next year, Rabri Devi said.

Several political parties, including the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha(Soren), BJP and Congress, have been demanding the JAAC polls on party symbols.

Yesterdays meeting was attended by the interim JAAC chairman, Shibu Soren, MP, and vice-chairman Suraj Mandal, planning minister Tulsi Singh, parliamentary affairs minister Raghunath Jha and minister of state for planning, Vikram Kunwar and others.

Representatives of various political parties including Ramadhar Singh (Janata Dal), Teklal Mahato (JMM-M), Mahendra Prasad Singh (CPI-ML), Lal Rajendra Nath Sahdeo (BJP), and Vijay Shanker Mishra (Congress), were also present at the meeting.
