"We don't attach much significance to it since our party has right from the beginning taken a strong stance against the India-US nuclear agreement", he said yesterday when reporters asked him how he viewed the 'critificate' his party had earned from the RSS.

Asked if he thought it was proper on the part of Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee to continue in office, he said "it is for the Speaker himself to take a decision on this".

"Our party has made this position clear since we do not want the Speaker's office to be drawn into controversies".

Achuthanandan, however, said his demand for resignation of Muslim League leader E Ahmed from the union ministry was different from that of the Speaker's issue.

He said strong views against the nuclear deal in the Muslim League was evident from a statement prepared by G M Banatawala, who was IUML all-India president, before his death recently.
