The reconstruction work at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport will be complete by May-end.
“The runway work is on schedule and about 95 per cent of the work is complete. The notice to airmen regarding runway closure will end on May 31,” a Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) spokesperson said. GVK group-controlled MIAL runs the airport.
The reconstruction work is a part of Rs 9,800-crore project, which involves construction of integrated passenger terminal and airside infrastructure. to enhance the airport’s capacity. MIAL has appointed the UK-based airport traffic service provider NATS to suggest capacity enhancement measures.
The airport’s main runway underwent such major upgradation about ten years ago. The runway length has been widened from 45 metres to 60 metres and improvements have been made in runway lighting.
