My Budget: Ramesh Ramanathan

What did you think of the Budget?
It is a very mild sort of Budget, an aam aadmi Budget. But as far as the tourism industry goes, I feel it is another opportunity lost to bring tourism to the centre stage. We should have followed up campaigns such as Incredible India. But there are positives. The move to do away with surcharge on income tax and raising the exemption slab should put money in the hands of people. The development of national highways should help road tourism, which is for the future.

What were your expectations?
We wanted tourism to be given infrastructure status. It creates employment and spreads wealth.

Have those expectations been met?
No, our expectations have not been met.

Any particular concern?
We don’t know if this Budget will affect us — mostly not. It could have accelerated earnings though.

What does the Budget mean to you on a personal level?
Quite neutral. I would say a lot of high expectations were due to the media.
