After demanding separate Bundelkhand and Paschimanchal states be carved out of Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Mayawati today shot off another letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for her state to be split further to create ‘Poorvanchal’ out of its eastern region.
“The CM has written a letter to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, requesting him to give the Centre’s permission for creation of a separate Poorvanchal state and expediting the constitutional procedure in that regard,” Additional Cabinet Secretary Vijay Shanker Pandey told reporters in Lucknow.
“The chief minister has repeatedly stated that she was in favour of smaller states and supports creation of a separate Poorvanchal state,” Pandey added.
Mayawati’s second communication to the PM — the second in three days — for UP to be split into four parts came even as senior Congress MP Vilas Muttemwar wrote to the prime minister pressing for creation of a separate Vidarbha in Maharashtra.
