The Odisha government has partnered with Oracle India for setting up an academy in Bhubaneshwar to upgrade skill sets of students.

“The state government in partnership with Oracle is setting up Oracle Academy at Bhubaneswar. The academy will offer a complete portfolio of computer science education resources to secondary schools, technical, vocational courses, two year colleges, four year colleges and universities with the goal of helping students become industry ready”,  said Chandra Sarathi Behera, minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Odisha at the Make in Odisha conclave.

Officials said that the state government is in an advanced stage of signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the tech bellwether. About 200-300 institutions will be covered the programme.

Though Odisha boasts of a cluster of engineering and management institutions and draws students from elsewhere as well, the performance of some of these colleges when it comes to placement is woeful.

Through this collaboration with Oracle India, the state government looks to reverse the scenario.

Stating that the state government is giving high priority for promotion of IT, ITes and ESDM (electronic system design and manufacturing) sectors, Behera said, “ In order to promote such industries, IT (information technology) special economic zones (SEZ) are established at Infocity and Infovalley (both dedicated IT parks) in Bhubaneswar.”

During the second edition of  Make in Odisha, the state has bagged investment intents of about Rs 39 billion in the IT and ESDM sector including Rs 30 billion announced by Reliance Industries.
