A delegation of Congress M.L.A.S and Office bearers led by President Punjab Pradesh Congress Rajinder kaur Bhattal today met Governor Gen S F Rodrigues and submitted him a memorandum  in this connection.

The Congress leaders regretted the statement of  Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal expressing his inability to reduce the Sales tax in Punjab.

The Congress leaders said that this had exposed the true face of Akali government claiming itself the friends of the farmers and the common man and acting otherwise.

"The real face  of Akali government expressed in their actions and anti-poor people policies is projected by the negative attitude of the State government towards the apathy of consumers especially the farmers who consume the bulk of the Diesel in Punjab and any reduction in Sales tax on Diesel directly affects the peasantry," the memorandum said.

The Congress leaders asserted that the Akali leaders are shedding crocodile tears for the farmers while they are not ready to  reduce a single penny on the taxes generated by the sales of these products.

Even the State government is not ready to give away the increased taxes on account of increased value of these products.

They requested the Governor of Punjab to use his good offices for this common cause as he himself is well-versed with the pros and cons of the problem and has reduced the taxes on Petroleum products as Administrator of the Union Territory.
