A day before the new government is sworn-in, Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday visited North Block, which houses the finance ministry, and held informal meetings with top officials there.
Mukherjee, who was given additional charge of the finance ministry after P Chidambaram moved to home ministry in December 2008, is seen as one of the contenders to occupy the North Block.
Among the officials he met today were Finance Secretary Ashok Chawla, Revenue Secretary PV Bhide and Expenditure Secretary Sushma Nath. Details of the discussions held with these officials were not known.
