"Bihar is being looted by the NDA government in the name of development. The slogan for development has been a far cry", RJD national spokesman Shyam Razak said.

"Either the work of constructing roads in Bihar is stalled or inferior quality of work are being carried out by the agencies engaged by the state government," Razak said.

The contractors were being cleared by the state officials without verifying whether these agencies had completed the tasks assigned to them, he said, alleging that the government cleared bills for expansion and construction of roads under Darbhanga division thrice a year, a fact acknowledged by Chief Minister himself.

Under attack from the opposition for failing to stop sub-standard construction works in Bihar, the NDA government had yesterday scrapped its contract with the Tantiya Construction Company Private Limited (TCCPL) for its unsatisfactory work in construction of roads in the state capital.

"The work has been sub-standard and of inferior quality and the project for which the company was assigned by the state government have been inordinately delayed," official sources said.

Despite the state government serving notices on the company 30 times and slapping fines to the tune of Rs 3.56 crore for tardy pace of work, the TCCPL failed to meet the deadline, the sources said.

The department of road construction had earlier served a show-cause notice to the TCCPL seeking to know why it should not be blacklisted for unsatisfactory work.

TCCPL was assigned jobs for construction and expansion of Birchand Patel Path, Boring Road, Harding Road, Sahde Mahato Marge, Jagdeo Path, Old Bypass, West Bording Canal Road East Boring Canal Road, Rajendra Path, Mithapur-Khagaul Road, Bailey Road and Exhibition Road.
