In order to position the state the way Kerala, Rajasthan, Goa and other states have done, requires more than the nominal Rs 25 crore which has been earmarked by the state government for tourism development this year, he said.

For promoting tourism the Chamber will talk to the state government for improving and popularising some of the exotic locations.

He also mentioned that MCC will continue to act as a facilitator between the government and the entrepreneurs and to this effect it will be organising seminars and workshops on various issues regularly.

He spoke of SMEs playing an important role and contributing about 40 per cent of industrial production and export. However for improving the present situation of SMEs, various hurdles like, inflexible labour laws, high cost of credit with collaterals will have to be removed.

The Chamber has also proposed for building double and three-line railway tracks from Burbill in Orissa to Asansol and Durgapur. Currently there is a single railway line.

The small and medium secondary steel producers in West Bengal are facing a huge crunch after the reduction of rakes from 8 to 1 rake per week. The issue will be taken up shortly in the chambers.

New lines will help greater freight movement for the small players who often has to wait more than 8-9 months in the sidings.
