State to set up committee to oversee UID project

Karnataka is set to become the first state in the country to implement the Unique Identification project. The state government has decided to set up an empowered committee to assist the Unique Identifcation Authority of India (UIDAI) to implement the UID project in the state. The committee will comprise of 15 members drawn from key government departments.

State home minister V S Acharya told reporters, here on Wednesday, the committee will be set up as recommended by Nandan Nilekani, chairman of UIDAI. The committee will oversee the issue of unique identity numbers to the residents of the state.
