The Tamil Nadu government has lined up projects worth Rs 11,204 crore under public-private partnership (PPP).
According to a senior official, bulk of the investment will be for creating industrial infrastructure.
The government would focus on developing urban infrastructure, roads, airports, ports, SEZs, water supply/sewerage, housing, tourism, agriculture, health and education where the private sector participation will be encouraged.
Speaking at Suminfra, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry here recently, M Velmurugan, executive vice chairman, guidance bureau — industries department, said 26 projects had so far been implemented or are under implementation through the PPP mode in the state with a total investment of Rs 9,948 crore.
Four projects, which are likely to commence shortly, include a Rs 500 crore 100 mld desalination plant, an effluent treatment plant (ETP) for dyeing units at Tirupur worth Rs 420 crore, IT corridor worth Rs 205 crore and an ETP for a leather cluster at Ambur worth Rs 85 crore.
He said in the road sector so far three projects worth Rs 190 crore had been completed and one project worth Rs 205 crore was being executed. Under urban infrastructure, four projects worth Rs 1,109 crore had been completed and one project worth Rs 500 crore was currently being executed.
The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority has identified a few PPP projects including a Rs 475 crore redevelopment of Omni bus stand at Koyambedu in Chennai and development of airspace over MRTS railhead involving Rs 136 crore.
