Sonia accuses Modi of spreading hatred, dividing communities

Criticises Gujarat govt's development model

As Narendra Modi filed his nomination from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday attacked the BJP's prime ministerial candidate on his home turf accusing him of spreading hatred and dividing communities.

She also ridiculed Modi's claim of decriminalization of politics and asked him why he had retained tainted minister in his council of minister.

Speaking at public rally in Kheralu in Mehsana district of North Gujarat, Sonia criticised the that Gujarat government's development model. She also expressed concern over security of women in the state.

"In this elections one side there is ideology of which wants to take country in direction where there is development for poor, weak, middle class; where power lies with everyone not only a select few, and all have equal rights irrespective of religion, community, caste or region. Congress dreams of an open society," Gandhi said.

"While BJP's ideology is of spreading hatred, where power and money lies in the hands of a select few; where voices of weak and poor are suppressed. Their (BJP's) ideology is to create a society where a persons identity is not based on his capability or skills but it will be based on his religion, caste and region. You have to select the right path on which you want your country to go. I have full faith in you that you will select the right path," the UPA chairperson said.
