Celebrations of Narendra Modi-led BJP's win in the 2014 Indian elections have reached the shores of America.

As per Twitter, Indians in New York celebrated Bharatiya Janta Party's clean sweep of the elections by distributing Samosas, chanting Modi's name and waving the BJP flag on Times Square.

"BJP serves pizza in Delhi, samosas and chai in Times Square. Really is a new global economy," tweeted @mitrakalita from New York. According to reports a total of 5,000 Indians gathered on the streets of Times Square, New York as news about Modi becoming the next prime minister of the country started coming in.

"Saw flashes of #IndiaElection2014 results all over Times Square. Fantastic to witness a truly historic election - excitement everywhere!," tweeted @GracelleGerber.

Interestingly, in 2005 the US government had revoked Modi's visa and banned him from travelling to the US citing human rights violations during the 2002 Gujarat riots. The US government has so far been silent on the issue and is yet to decide on reversing the ban, said media reports.

"There were free samosas distributed at Times Square. It's funny how samosas are allowed at Times Square & not Modi," noted @abishmathew another enthusiastic member of the twitterati.

Times Square was among the top nine Indian elections-related trending topics on Twitter on Friday. Of the remaining eight, six were on Narendra Modi and BJP, one on independent candidate Rakhi Sawant and NCP candidate Supriya Sule each.
