Japan to fund Rs 400-crore Himachal projects

A meeting was held in Shimla on Tuesday to finalise the record of discussions on Japan International Cooperation Agency(JICA) funded projects on diversification of agriculture in Himachal Pradesh.

The two projects, to be implemented through a technical cooperation, will cost Rs 400 crore, of which 90 per cent will come in grants.

It is expected that these projects will start by the beginning of next year.

Government of India Joint Secretary Agriculture E K Majhi said after the meeting his ministry would extend full support in funding of these projects.

Himachal Pradesh Secretary Agriculture Ram Subhag Singh said the state government has sent proposals for Himachal Pradesh crop diversification project and technical cooperation to JICA.

He said under the crop diversification project funds will be spent on infrastructure development, farmers support programmes and organic farming.

While the technical cooperation project includes selection of pilot area development of irrigation system among other works.

Ayumiu Oshima and Mistauki Suzuki of JICA also attended the meeting.
