New York's main contract, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for February delivery, added two cents to $99.31 in mid-morning trade while Brent North Sea crude for February rose five cents to $111.26.
WTI fell $1.03 in New York on profit-taking Monday after it closed above the psychologically important $100 level on Friday, buoyed by upbeat sentiment about US demand. Brent closed 97 cents lower in London trade.
