IIM-A bags Rs 1 crore HP grant, to scale up school innovation work

The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) is set to scale up its work among innovative public school teachers from 2,000 to 10,000.

IIM-A's decision comes on the back of the premier B-school being awarded a Rs one crore top grant from Education Innovation Fund for India (EIFI), a collaborative project between the HP Sustainability & Social Innovation group and the India Council for Integral Education (ICIE), an initiative of the Sri Aurobindo Society.

"The Ravi J Matthai Centre of Education Innovation (RJMCEI) has been awarded a top grant of Rs one crore under the EIFI fund of $ one million (roughly Rs 5.5 crore) for its work on innovative public school teachers. This has given our project a big boost and we will look to scale it up in near future. Apart from reaching out to 8,000-10,000 such teachers instead of current 2,000, we will also put the resource of such innovation by the teachers for public access on an electronic platform for the first time," said Vijaya Sherry Chand, Professor, RJMCEI at IIM-A.

According to HP, The US$ 1 million fund is designed to promote education projects that use innovative learning approaches in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), pedagogy, curriculum development and holistic learning to advance education delivery and reach in India.

Apart from the top grant of Rs one crore, EIFI also announced other grant winners under the $ one million (Rs 5.5 crore) fund. Major grants of Rs 15 lakhs for 15 winners and special grants of Rs 10 lakhs for two winners were awarded for projects being implemented at the grass roots that are result-oriented with strong educational outcomes.
