The varasity was established after the passing of a bill in the state assembly to this effect last year.
“The School of Commerce of Xavier University will offer Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting), Bachelor of Commerce (Finance), Bachelor of Management Studies (Marketing) and Bachelor of Management Studies (Human Resource). The graduation programmes will have intake capacity of around 150-160 students for the programmes,” said Father Paul Fernandes, vice-chancellor of the university.

The varsity jointly promoted by the Odisha Jesuit Society and Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB), is coming up on 35 acres at Kurki industrial estate in Nijigardh village near Pipili. Other programmes in arts and science stream will be opened next year, Fernandes said.
The candidates with minimum 55 per cent in any discipline in +2 level examinations will have to appear for a written test for getting admission in the bachelor’s course. However, few seats may be allotted to highly meritorious students scoring 95 per cent and above directly, he said.
The examination will be conducted at Bhubaneswar, Kolkata and Delhi.
The course fee for the three year degree course is fixed at Rs 1.75 lakh for first year, Rs 2 lakh and Rs 2.25 lakh in second year and third year respectively.
Similarly, the university has rolled out Phd and integrated PhD programmes in management for which the classes are likely to commence from June. The eight areas of management in the doctoral program are likely to be CSR management, rural management, business management, public policy management.
Xavier University is the fifth private university in the state. Earlier Sri Sri Ravi Shankar University, Vedanta University, ICFAI University and Centurion University of Technology & Management have got the nod of the assembly.
The university has 50 per cent reservation for students from Odisha and the new campus is likely to be inaugurated after the elections.
It (the university) will offer academic programmes like Engineering & Technology, Banking & Financial Services and Humanities, higher education minister Badri Narayan Patra had said after passing of the bill in the assembly.
