Broker body plans reality show to educate masses

The financial literacy show will be broadcast in Hindi and will be called Samridhi Ki Pathshala

The Association of National Exchanges Members of India (ANMI), a brokerage body, plans to educate investors about financial matters through a reality show broadcast on  public service broadcaster Doordarshan.

The programme will be broadcast in Hindi and is to be called Samridhi Ki Pathshala, according to a statement from ANMI.

“In an endeavor to promote investor education, ANMI is also working on producing a reality show Samridhi Ki Pathshala in Hindi, the widely spoken language in India. This programme is being sponsored by National Stock Exchange and will be telecasted all India on Doordarshan,” it said.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India has been stressing on the need for investor education. The minutes of its March 20 board meeting also mentioned its own efforts on this across multiple languages.  

“As part of the various educational and awareness activities conducted by Sebi, a campaign through mass media (TV, radio and print) is being run since December 2012. As part of the campaign, advertisements on relevant topics of investor awareness are released through popular media vehicles — TV, radio and print (daily newspapers), and carried at a pan-India level in 13 major Indian languages,” it said.
