BSE SME cos market-cap crosses Rs 10,000-cr

The average market-cap of a company was over Rs 120 cr

The total value of small and medium enterprises (SME) listed on the BSE SME platform crossed the Rs 10,000-crore mark for the first time on Friday.

The market-capitalisation of companies on the platform touched Rs 10,117 crore, an average market-cap of over Rs 120 crore per company.

Set up in March 2012, the BSE SME platform boasts of 82 listed companies. Twenty-eight of these were traded on Friday.

The total listed companies' count on the platform is expected to go higher still with 16 more companies at various stages of listing, the exchange said.

"India has a huge potential for SMEs and the success at BSE SME in less than 3 years of its setting up has opened up important avenues for high growth SME companies to raise funds for their growth from public. This also proves that Indian investors are willing to invest in right companies, however small," said Ashishkumar Chauhan, MD & CEO of BSE in a statement from the exchange.

The platform set up in March 2012, crossed the $1 billion-mark, about Rs 6,000 crore, in April this year.
