The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 161 points (1.94%) to 8,163. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell 18 points (1.97%) to 881.
The Nasdaq Composite Index lost 41 points (2.31%) to 1,746. US stocks fell to their lowest level in 10 weeks on Tuesday as discussions of a second government stimulus plan intensified fears that the economy is still under pressure and also the corporate earnings season starting this week will be weak.
The Indian ADRs ended on a negative note. Genpact slipped 1.23% to $11.23.Tata Motors dropped 2.26% to $8.21. Infosys declined 1.43% to $35.26 and Patni Computers was down 1.68% at $10.56. ICICI Bank was flat at $27.90 and Tata Communications declined 2.28% to $18.86. HDFC Bank decreased 1% to $93.94.
