Lead rose by 0.58% to Rs 112.20 per kg today on the back of a firming trend at the London Metal Exchange amid pick up in demand from battery makers.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, lead for delivery in January traded higher by 65 paise, or 0.58%, to Rs 112.20 per kg, with a business turnover of 825 lots.

The February contract gained 55 paise, or 0.49%, to Rs 113.10 per kg, with a business turnover of 111 lots.

Market analysts said apart from rising demand at the domestic markets from battery-makers, firmness in base metals at the LME also supported the upside in metal prices at futures trade.

At the LME, lead gained 0.4% to $2,260 a tonne.
