Zinc rose by Rs 1.05, or nearly 1%, to Rs 106.80 per kg today following firming trend in entire base metals overseas.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in January traded higher by Rs 1.05, or 0.99%, to Rs 106.80 per kg, with a business turnover of 1,716 lots.

The February contract inched up by Re 1, or 0.94%, to Rs 107.60 per kg, with a business turnover of 224 lots.

Analysts said besides a firming trend in entire base metal in the global markets, pick-up in domestic demand helped zinc prices trade higher.

Meanwhile, zinc gained 1.4% to $2,154.75 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
