Markets firm; IT, metal lead

The Sensex after having a flat start has now gained the momentum. The index is now at 16,611, up 170 points

The NSE Nifty is at 4,935, up 54 points.

Among the sectoral movers, IT and the metal indices are up 2.5% each.

SENSEX MOVERS...

Tata Motors and Sterlite have soared 4% each to Rs 619 and Rs 837, respectively.

Wipro and Jaiprakash Associates have added 3% each to Rs 611 and Rs 234, respectively.

Sun Pharma, Reliance Infrastructure, Tata Steel and TCS have advanced over 2% each.

The otherl gainers include Hindalco, ACC, Larsen & Toubro and NTPC, up above 1% each.

...AND THE SHAKERS

Maruti is the maximum loser, down 1.5% at Rs 1,424. SBI, RCom and DLF have declined 1% each.

The market breadth is fairly positive, out of 2,447 shares traded, 1,493 have advanced and 884 have declined so far on the BSE.

VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERS

Educomp Solutions has topped the value chart on the BSE with a tyrnover of Rs 122.05 crore. It is followed by NMDC (Rs 75.80 crore), Tata Steel (59.77 crore), Reliance (Rs 57.88 crore) and SBI (53.93 crore).

Cals Refineries has led the volume chart on the BSE with trades of 27.65 million shares. It is followed by Suzlon (4.84 million), Austral Coke (4.41 million), Unitech (3.11 million) and Neyveli Lignite Corporation (3.07 million).
