Metals drag markets

The BSE metal index has dragged the Sensex down 60 points from the day's high. The index is now trading at 17,405 - up 19 points.

The Nifty is up eight points at 5,230.

The BSE metal index is down 1% at 17,172. IT and realty have also dropped in red.

Hindalco has shed 2.4% at Rs 169. Sterlite has dropped 1.5% to Rs 797. Tata Steel has slipped 0.7% to Rs 604.

Bharti Airtel has dropped 1.4% to Rs 293.

ACC has moved down 1% at Rs 894. IT stocks are in red. Infosys and Wipro are down marginally at Rs 2,675 and Rs 672, respectively. TCS is flat Rs 767.

Meanwhile, HDFC has jumped 1.3% to Rs 2,844. Jaiprakash Associates has added 1.2% to Rs 146.

Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors and DLF have advanced around 1% each.

BSE market breadth continues to be positive. Out of 2683 stocks traded, 1,597 have advanced while 993 have declined.
