NCDEX posts record spices delivery

Coriander leads pack, with near six-fold surge in deliveries, to 54,040 tonnes in 2015-16, over 9,460 tonnes a year ago

National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) has seen record deposits and deliveries in spices complex led by coriander, turmeric and jeera in the financial year 2015-16. These are the highest deliveries seen on the exchange platform since the launch of these three contracts.

While deposits of coriander shot up by 281 per cent to 52,144 tonnes in FY 2015-16 as compared to 13,704 tonnes in the previous year, deliveries jumped a staggering 471 per cent to 54,040 tonnes in the year ending March 31, 2016 as against a meagre 9,460 tonnes in the previous year.

Similarly, deposits and deliveries of turmeric rose 169 per cent and 359 per cent to 16,922 tonnes (6,282 tonnes) and 16,450 tonnes (3,585 tonnes) respectively.

Business transactions in jeera, however, remained comparatively resilient with its deposits and deliveries jumped by 81 per cent to 29,056 tonnes (16,020 tonnes) and 14,943 tonnes (5,733 tonnes) respectively.
