Potato prices gained 1.38% to Rs 1,164.90 per quintal in futures trade today as traders enlarged positions, driven by a pick up in spot demand amid lower arrivals from producing belts.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for delivery in September rose by Rs 15.90, or 1.38%, to Rs 1,164.90 per quintal, with a business turnover of 17 lots.

October potato moved up by Rs 12, or 0.99%, to Rs 1,220 per quintal, with a business turnover of five lots.

Marketmen said increased buying by traders after pick up in spot market demand against lower arrivals from producing belts led to the rise in potato futures.
