The Sensex opened almost flat at 14,890 - down seven points. The index touched a high of 14,347, and a low of 14,283, and is now up 12 points at 14,309.
Sterlite has gained 1.3% at Rs 621.
Reliance Communications, Mahindra & Mahindra and Jaiprakash Associates are the other prominent gainers.
Hindalco is down almost 10% at Rs 125 on the back of price adjustment owing to the rights issue.
DLF has slipped 1.6% to Rs 471.
