Sensex steady in early trades; HDFC Bank rallies 4%

The Sensex is now up 49 points at 14,627.

The NSE Nifty is up 13 points at 4,408.

HDFC Bank has rallied 3.5% to Rs 1,148. Tata Motors has surged 2.5% to Rs 406.

Ranbaxy and BHEL have moved up 1.5% each to Rs 532 and Rs 1,739, respectively.

SBI, Grasim, Hindalco and DLF have advanced 1.3% each to Rs 1,530, Rs 1,920, Rs 144 and Rs 521, respectively.

Mahindra & Mahindra, Reliance Infrastructure and ACC have gained over 1% each at Rs 526, Rs 1,013 and Rs 592, respectively.

HDFC and ICICI Bank are also up over 1% each at Rs 2,398 and Rs 647, respectively.

Sterlite has slumped 5% to Rs 593, and Tata Steel has shed 2% at Rs 678.

Infosys has slipped 1.7% to Rs 1,627.
