A day after the implementation of the e-way bill for inter-state transportation of commodities, Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) Chiarman Ajay Bhushan Pandey noted that 2.59 lakh e-way bills were registered on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Ajay noted that as of 3 p.m., 2.989 lakh e-way bills were registered.

"We are getting an hourly rate of 60,000 e-way bills. However, this number is expected to go up, and we are prepared for the surge in volume. We have done an extensive amount of load testing across different time intervals. Nearly 100 agents are lined up on call for any difficult," he said.

Furthermore, the GSTN Chief noted that 11 lakh dealers have registered for the e-way bill so far, in additional to around 20,000 transporters.

"Over the next seven days, we will watch the progress of the rollout. Soon after, we will come out with a tentative schedule for the rollout of the intra-state e-way bill," he said.

Meanwhile, Finance Secretary Hasmukh Adhia stated that no glitches have been traced so far in the implementation.

"We are very happy that although it (e-way bill) took two months to be perfected before rollout, there have been no glitches reported so far. We will soon be announcing which are the states that will come under the intra-state bill," he said.

On a related note, the inter-state expressway (e-way) bill system was rolled out on Sunday by the GSTN in order to facilitate smooth movement of goods around the country.

The implementation of the nationwide e-way bill mechanism, under the GST regime, is being done by the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) in association with the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to facilitate a paradigm shift in inter-state goods movement.
