Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) chief Ajay Maken on Tuesday alleged that the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government's move to increase the upper limit on Value Added Tax (VAT) reflects their immaturity.

Maken said it is extremely shocking that the AAP, which had during the Delhi Assembly polls promised to lower the VAT, have increased the same from 20 percent to 30 percent.

"This is a very immature move by AAP and shows the party's inexperience as it will not only increase the prices of petroleum products in Delhi from 10 percent, but also will become a burden to the common man as people commuting from Delhi to UP and Delhi to Haryana will get their tanks filled from outside Delhi and this will apparently incur loss to the Delhi Government," he added.

The Delhi government moved a proposal in the assembly on Monday to increase the upper limit on VAT from 20 percent to 30 percent, opening up the possibility of maximising the levels on 11 items, including piped natural gas, compressed natural gas, kerosene, liquor, lottery tickets, tobacco and gutka.
