Al Qaeda's Syria affiliate, Al Nusra, has reportedly killed at least 20 people belonging to the minority Druze sect in north-western Syria, a rights watch group said.

The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that elderly people and a child were among those killed in Qalb Lawzah in Idlib province, reported the BBC.

The Druze faith, which is an offshoot of Islam, is considered heretical by jihadists. The terror group had earlier forced members of the minority sect to convert to Sunni Islam.

The group is part of a rebel alliance that has seized control over much of Idlib in the past three months, ousting government forces from the provincial capital.
