Expressing serious concern over the floods in Assam, Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Jitendra Singh on Sunday assured the Centre's support in providing relief to those affected by the calamity.

"We are constantly in touch with the situation over there...We wish to reassure the people of Assam that the Government of India is fully there to support them in all kinds of relief, rescue and rehabilitation operations. The NDRF has activated its activities, six teams of NDRF have already got into operation. So far, we have successfully rescued and evacuated over 600 people from the flood affected districts. There are around 17 districts affected by floods," Singh told the media here.

"NDRF is also in the process of shifting medical teams to the affected areas as there is a possibility of epidemic breaking out. To combat that the medical teams are already into action," he added.

The flood situation in the north eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam continue to remain grim.

According to reports, the flood situation in Arunachal Pradesh's two districts of Lohit and Namsai was particularly grave and that Rivers Lohit, Noa-Dehing, Kamlang and others were flowing above the danger level.
