Following the all- powerful working committee meeting on Sunday, the Board of Cricket Council in India (BCCI) confirmed that two suspended franchises Chennai Super King and Rajasthan Royals will not face termination and said that two new teams will replace them in the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament.
The BCCI, however, said that a total of ten teams would play in the IPL from 2018 after the end of two-year suspension of CSK and RR.
The Supreme Court appointed Justice R.M. Lodha-led committee had in July this year suspended the CSK and RR for two years from the league following the involvement of some players in spot-fixing.
Meanwhile, the BCCI has also taken the decision on PepsiCo's plea to withdraw as IPL sponsor. They revealed that telecommunications company, Vivo, will sponsor IPL for the next two years with the beverage giant making its exit.
The meeting, which was the first to be chaired by new president Shashank Manohar, was earlier scheduled to be held in August, but was postponed to seek the Supreme Court's decision on whether N. Srinivasan should be allowed to attend the BCCI meetings.
The BCCI's annual general meeting will take place on November 9.
