England veteran batsman Ian Bell has backed rising star Joe Root as future Test skipper despite being replaced as vice-captain by his fellow team mate earlier this week. Root's appointment as Alastair Cook's deputy by England's new director of cricket Andrew Strauss was seen as part of a long-term strategy.
Bell said that Strauss sees Root as a future England captain, insisting that it was a smart move as the rising star has got a good cricket brain, Sport24 reported.
Bell added that it would be good for the newly appointed vice-captain to learn a few more of the things that are going on with Cook, and therefore he could be a good England captain one day.
England is heading towards a tough season of Test cricket as they will host New Zealand in a two-match series this month before taking on Australia in the Ashes series.
