Bill Cosby has been sued for defamation by two women, who had earlier accused him of historical sex offences, for calling them liars publically.

Therese Serignese and Linda Traitz's lawyer, Joseph Cammarata, said that the civil action allows them to have their allegations heard now criminal statutes of limitation have expired, the BBC reported.

The statute of limitations restricts the length of time in which legal action can be taken after an alleged crime has been committed.

The original case was filed in December by Tamara Green, who has accused Cosby of assaulting her in the 1970s.
