The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday criticized the move to accord Z plus security to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew and Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee comparing the latter turning into as the Robert Vadra of West Bengal.

"Abhishek Banerjee is fast turning into the Robert Vadra of West Bengal. The son-in-law of Mrs Sonia Gandhi enjoys great privileges in Delhi and all over the country. And Abhishek Banerjee as the nephew of Mamata Banerjee is seemingly being treated as a super Member of Parliament in West Bengal," BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao told ANI.

The BJP leader further took potshots over such move stating that such treatment offered to Abhishek was not even given to the West Bengal Governor.

"He is now being considered for Z plus security that is not even considered for the Governor of the state. The first citizen of West Bengal. We certainly find to be a big farce. It only raises questions about the incident that took place a few days ago and whether it was actually motivated, whether it was even stage managed," he added.

According to reports West Bengal police on Tuesday confirmed that Abhishek's security cover is being upgraded. This has come close on the heels following an incident where the president of the youth wing of the Trinamool Congress ( TMC), was slapped by a youth while he was addressing a rally in East Midnapore District last week.
