Thousands of fish have died in the historical Sher Shah Suri Lake in Uttar Pradesh due to alleged official apathy.
The Sher Shah Suri Lake of the Sur dynasty king is one of popular attractions for tourists.
Residents of the area said they saw dead fish floating in the lake.
They alleged negligence on the part of local municipality for not maintaining the pond.
"I feel the fishes have died due to cold and also due to unhygienic lake water. We had asked the municipality to treat water for its cleanliness because water is not recycled. Initially there used to recycling of water but now it has stopped. So this can be major reason," said a resident, Anil Kumar Pandey.
The municipal authorities later visited the spot and cleaned the lake with some chemicals.
Locals say the lake has never run dry in the 400 years of its existence.
