The Congress on Sunday took a jibe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its criticism of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, saying the ruling party has a 'special affection' for him.
Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that he was not at all surprised by the BJP's 'words of abuse' against their political opponents.
"They have special affection for Rahul Gandhi, somebody at state level uses one word, a minister at Centre uses another word," he added.
Singhvi blamed the Centre for failing to deliver on the promises made to the nation, saying this reflected the frustration.
"What is the point of this? The point of this is not that it is not going to affect the Congress, the point is that it shows your frustration, your fright, your fear," he said.
Singhvi accused the government of diverting attention from the real issues as it exposed its failure in addressing it.
"It shows that you want to digress and divert because the real issues are not addressed by you," said Singhvi.
"If you think the Congress is easily diverted or that the people of India, you insult them by thinking that this kind of game can go," he added.
The BJP has been critical of the Congress vice-president after his criticism of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on the controversy surrounding former IPL boss Lalit Modi.
