BJP MP pitches for ease in confirming train tickets for Army personnel

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Dayan Mishra on Friday asked Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu to make specific arrangements for Army personnel in order to procure confirmed train tickets at the last moment.

"Can army personnel or soldiers have a special arrangement for getting confirmed train ticket at the last moment? Most of the time, troops deployed in Kashmir or the North-East region have to travel immediately in a day or two but on unconfirmed tickets, due to this the soldiers face lack of berth confirmation," said Mishra in the Lok Sabha.

Mishra further stated that if MPs or MLAs can enjoy the luxury of railway quotas, then so should army personnel.

"For MPs and MLAs there is railway quota, then why not for soldiers and army personnel so that they can get confirmed reservation," Mishra added.

Earlier in the month, Railway Minister Prabhu had extended the facility to provide hassle-free collection of i-tickets by Defence personnel booked on the Defence Travel System.

Railways has also issued format of receipt to be given by the Defence personnel while collecting the i-ticket from the counter.
