Broad, Prior undergo surgery on long-term injuries

England wicketkeeper-batsman Matt Prior and fast bowler Stuart Broad underwent surgery on their long-term injuries on Thursday.

Prior has had an operation on an Achilles tendon injury, while Broad on the other hand had the patella tendon of his right knee operated.

Broad will miss November's one-day series in Sri Lanka but hopes to be fit for January's ODI tri-series in Australia, which precedes the World Cup, The BBC reported.

Prior, who stepped down from England duty in July because of the Achilles problem, played his last Test for England in the 95-run defeat by India at Lord's in July. The Sussex right-hander had announced in mid-August that he would be having surgery.

The wicketkeeper will begin a rehabilitation and recovery programme with England and his county cricket club Sussex during the winter, and his return to full fitness is expected to take four months.

Broad, who had revealed in early August that he would be going under the knife, will undertake a similar recovery programme and is expected to be out for about three months, the report added.
