Budding fashion designer from Itanagar gaining global appreciation

Hailing from a remote town of Arunachal Pradesh, Nixon Bui is a budding fashion designer who has made to the fashion industry with his unique ethnic menswear in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Graduating from a commerce stream from Oxford College in Bangalore, Nixon has entered the fashion world with his own brand called "NIXONBUI" in 2014 which was an attempt to give an urban touch to the ethnic designs of the North-East India.

Its design aesthetic is a celebration of cultural fusion, merging modern classic wear in urban environment with tribal details.

The designs are influenced both by the designer's tribal heritage, and his current surroundings. It is a blend of the ancient tribal with the minimal Scandinavian, the old with the new.

"My fashion journey started a long time ago and it has been an amazing roller-coaster. I finished my masters in business which further motivated me to keep my passion alive. I wanted to keep in touch with my identity. NIXONBUI is a menswear brand as of now but we are also trying to get into women's wear very soon. The brand is all about embracing your identity and to be proud of yourself," Bui said.

The brand uses 100 per cent organic fabric and sustainable material.

The tribal inspirations are not only reflected in the designs, but also in the values of the company recognizing and respecting the forces of nature, advocating quality and originality.

"The response from all over the world so far has been encouraging. I am looking forward to manufacture in India now," he said.

At present he lives in Copenhagen.
