After achieving less than the desired results in bypolls held across 10 states, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Sambit Patra said here on Wednesday that the party will introspect on the results and will address the problems at the ground level.
Patra told ANI, "As a mature political party, we'll introspect and will take care of the problems at the ground level."
After bagging just two out of 11 seats in Uttar Pradesh, state BJP president Laxmikant Bajpai said, "The entire team will introspect and further plan strategy for the forthcoming polls. We respect the public mandate. It is the responsibility of the UP BJP unit and not the leadership."
Another BJP leader, Nalin Kohli, said, "We will introspect and analyze reasons, every defeat is an opportunity to get ready for future."
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led wave for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), that was so successful in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, failed to live to its hype in the bypolls which were held in 33 constituencies across 10 states.
Despite aggressive campaigning by the BJP, especially by its Gorakhpur MP Yogi Adityanath, the BJP could only bag two of the nine seats in UP.
The BJP won just one seat from South Kota in Rajasthan while in Gujarat it won seven out of the nine seats, although the Congress also managed to win two seats in the state.
In West Bengal, however, the party made inroads into the state for the first time by winning the Basirhat Dakshin seat.
