Former Chief Minister and Congress candidate from Amritsar Capt Amarinder Singh today ridiculed the charges levelled on him by the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal that he was responsible for Operation Bluestar and that he was involved in drug trafficking.
In a statement Capt Amarinder said that he could understand Sukhbir's ignorance about Operation Bluestar since at that time he was usually seen partying with a ponytail in the US and other western countries.
"But I am surprised over the allegations he has been levelling against me about drug trafficking", he taunted Sukhbir while adding, "he (Sukhbir) is the Home Minister and he should take action rather than level allegations against me. Home Ministers do not level allegations; they are supposed to take action".
"It is a well known fact that the Congress government led by Ms Indira Gandhi took the decision to send army into Golden Temple, which was wrong. I opposed that decision then and I oppose it even now, but what about your father Parkash Singh Badal who gave his consent to the operation during his meeting with the then union Home Minister PV Narsimha Rao, he asked.
He also referred to the role of the BJP which pressurised Ms Gandhi to take that action as has been mentioned by LK Advani in his book, 'My Country My Life'.
"I had thought that Sukhbir had taken a break from his hallucinating sessions but now I need to review my opinion about him as he still appears to be under that spell which makes him to mouth such rubbish and baseless statements which have no basis and are devoid of any logic and common sense," he remarked.
