Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Saturday attacked Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi over claims made in Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's former media advisor Sanjay Baru's book, and said that the mother and son would have to pay the price for running the UPA Government from behind the scenes.

"The book 'The Accidental Prime Minister' by Sanjaya Baru has brought out what the BJP has been saying for long, that the mother and son were the primary decision makers and Manmohan Singh was just a puppet in their hands," Modi said, while addressing a rally in Kakoijan in Bongaigaon District of Assam.

"It is clear now who was the actual prime minister. What Manmohan Singh says does not matter. Both mother and son have to pay a price for this," he said.

He further said that instead of releasing the number of speeches made by the PM, the PMO should give a detailed report of what they had done for Adivasis in Assam.

"Today, I came across a very entertaining piece of news. The PMO has said that the prime minister had delivered over 1100 speeches during the ten years of his rule. This is just to prove that he is not 'Maun' Mohan Singh," said Modi.

"Has the PMO's office ever announced what they have done for the Koch Rajbongshis or the tribals and Adivasis of Assam? No, they have not because they do not give you any importance or are concerned about you. They only remember you when elections come. Now, it is your turn to forget them," he said.

"The Congress has been cheating you. When they need your votes, the mother and the son comes to the fore, but stay behind the curtains when running the government," he added.

He also challenged Rahul Gandhi for "a face-off" in Assam while addressing a rally in Barpeta.

"Rahul Gandhi you are also in Assam today. I am also here. So, let's have a face-off," Modi said.

Attacking the Congress and chief minister Tarun Gogoi, Modi said, "Leave Gujarat today, just tell me why a mill here is in Assam closed? What is your chief minister doing? He has been selected three times and he cannot even start a mill which will provide employment to the youth."

He also added that the Congress Party will not do anything for the people and urged people to vote for the BJP.
